Partial change of use and renovation to produce four new residential units in historic building
63 Upper Berkeley St
London W1
A mixed use six storey building of merit in the Portman Conservation Area, we navigated planning to achieve a partial change of use to provide 2 no. maisonettes and 2no. one bedroom flats on intermediate floors.
With the adaption of the ground floor common stair only, a new internal access was cleverly accommodated under the existing stair to access the lower ground floor and unlock access to areas that had previously been in medical use.
Although unlisted – the building is categorised only as a building of merit – features and materials were retained wherever possible including the stair which was incrementally raised to correct historic movement.
