A new mews house with new basement

35 DEVONSHIRE CLOSE, LONDON W1

NEW MEWS HOUSE WITH EXCAVATED BASEMENT
using topdown construction technique. First the contiguous perimeter piles are bored then the ground floor slab is laid and then the earth is excavated.

To add to the complexity the site is over the Bakerloo underground tunnel.

As architects we found this project challenging. The layout of the house is unusal as part of it is in the body of the main house which allows it to be three bedrooms. The planners requested that the elevation was tradiional in aspect although the use of glazed bricks gives a vibrant feel and helps create a separating link between the mews and the main building..
