16 MARYLEBONE MEWS, LONDON W1 Extra space was achieved by excavating at basement level . By creating a void to the formal ground floor reception room, natural light was provided to a well proportioned basement kitchen and living room. Two bedrooms and bathrooms were created on the first floor. Second floor accommodation is given over entirely to the master bedroom, dressing room, ensuite bathroom and discreet roof terrace. The area of the project was 540m2 including additional 70m2 of mansard |

Outside space is critical for the house but this was difficult to achieve. We created an initmate and private terrace attached to the bedroom and also accessed from the main stair for social occasions. Privacy was achieved via a raised rear wall with a series of sand blasted windows. |

And this is what it looked like shortly after we started on site. We did contemplate reapplying for creation of a new cathedral but resisted the temptation. As with every refurbishment, the stripping back of the existing building reveals an intriguing collage of past works. |
